7.2.5 Diesel Generators

For supply of power during outage of external grid.

Capacity of the DG Generators: as required for emergency loads. Hierarchy of such loads to be decided by Senior Plant engineers in consultation with experienced operation staff.

Should have arrangement to start automatically in case of outage of external grid.

There should be auto load sharing arrangement among DG sets if more of them are installed and a single set cannot supply the entire required power.

Regularly operate once a week for a short time (30 min—one hour).

Regular servicing and inspection to be done by Service engineer from OEM. Annual maintenance contract is desirable.

Clean/replace air filter as per advice.

Check generator, electrical switches, battery for starting the set, exhaust silencer, acoustic enclosure, fuel storage tank, fuel oil pumps, coupling of engine with generator etc.
